Explorer.exe error

When starting my windows 2000 laptop I get the
error "explorer.exe has generated errors and will be
closed by windows you will need to restart the program" It
doesn't allow me to get past this. Safe Mode brings up
the same problem. any ideas?

If you can get to the DOS prompt try running chkdsk /f /r,
you do this by pressing F8 before windows starts. If you
cannot get to DOS, then insert your 2000 CD and re-install
it, you should not loose anything including programs you
have already installed. Read the messages carefully, if it
asks to to reformat do not, it should ask to install a new
copy.
