eScan AntiVirus Toolkit Utility Ver (4.4.7) - powered by Kaspersky.

After changing my workstation from dial-up connection to a wireless USB
adapter (TEW-229UB) I am unable to update the virus database. Maybe the
toolkit needs to be re-configured or un-installed and then re-installed.
Grateful if Art of http://home.epix.net/~artnpeg or any other expert would
advise of correct course of action to be taken.

Thank you in advance for assistance.

System Information:-

If you're talking about KASFX with its KAV-UP updater using WGET,
there is no install or configuration involved, as such.

Thanks. Well, I am talking about the eScan AntiVirus Toolkit Utility Ver
4.4.7 which I downloaded a couple of months or so ago after reading one of
your posts in this newsgroup ( I recall you had a 'bad morning' because your
downloading instructions contained a glitch or two).
I'd better uninstall and re-download the scanning utility.

Simply delete the folder which is probably C:\MWAV
Then download KASFX and run it (see my sig).

I am confused and screwed up.
I could not find a folder named C:\MWAV but only could find MS-DOS
Application mwavscan.com C:\Kaspersky\mwavscan.com .

I am prepared to uninstall and to start all over again.

Please advise which of the websites I need to access to download the most
current eScan Toolkit Utility (powered by Kaspersky).

I it one of the sites as shown below...................... ?

Free antivirus:
http://www.ik-cs.com/programs/virtools/KASFX.EXE
http://www.claymania.com/KASFX.EXE

....................or is the proceedure applicable as shown below?

Here's something far better than any online virus scan:
*********************************************************
The following procedure will give you a on-demand scan
with a clean/delete capability using the Kaspersky scan
engine and the extra defs:

Download mwav.exe from here:

http://www.spywareinfo.dk/download/mwav.exe

Allow it to extract the files to c:\Kaspersky

Next, download wget.exe from here:

http://users.ugent.be/~bpuype/wget/#download

And copy it to c:\Kaspersky

Use Notepad to create the following batch file:

@echo off
cls
echo -----------------------------------------------
echo Updating using updates1 ftp site
echo -----------------------------------------------
wget -N ftp://updates1.kaspersky-labs.com/updates_x/*.avc
wget -N ftp://updates1.kaspersky-labs.com/updates_x/avp.*
echo -----------------------------------------------
echo Updating completed!
echo -----------------------------------------------

Save the batch file as update.bat
copy it to c:\Kaspersky

Now run c:\Kaspersky\update.bat

Then run c:\Kaspersky\mwavscan
*****************************************************

Indeed.

I could not find a folder named C:\MWAV but only could find MS-DOS
Application mwavscan.com C:\Kaspersky\mwavscan.com .

If that worked for you before there's no need to do anything.
I am prepared to uninstall and to start all over again.

That's up to you.

KASFX.EXE is basically the same thing you already have via my old
instruction. Just the names of the folder and the updater batch
file are different.

Either of the top two.
...................or is the proceedure applicable as shown below?
Either.

Thanks for clarification.
I selected http://www.claymania.com/KASFX.EXE to download the eScan AV T/kit
Utility and noted that the operation is much simpler than the original
procedure.
I also note that folder of the eScan AV T/kit Utility was previously called
'Kaspersky' and is now named 'mwav'.
I recall you explained in one of your posts to this newsgroup a proceedure
as how to place shortcuts on desktop for updating and scanning operations. I
did not save this post, would you please advise one more time. Thanks.

Correct.

In Windows Explorer, drag the icon of C:\MWAV\KAV-UP.BAT out to the
desktop. You can also drag out the icon of C:\MWAV\MWAVSCAN.COM
if you want to run the eScan program without first updading it.

Remember that you cannot disable clean/delete, so you run the risk of
false positives destroying good files. KASFX is intended strictly for
emergency use rather than for routine use.
