Hello Mel,

Some of the issues that need to be answered are:
Has the error happened again & and is it consistent in occurence?

Since it appears you have IE vers 6, why did you get the IE7 blocker tool?

and did you manage to "sucessfully" install these dowloads ?

As long as you already had Windows Defender, getting the def update should go fine.

If you are having consistent and solid "errors", I'd consider using System Restore to restore to the day before.

If you only downloaded without actually installing, then just flush the IE temporary files folder(s).

Thanks for response, Pennywise.
I came across the same problem a few months ago and clicked the 'Debug'
button. This triggered a very loud and frightening siren noise for a few
seconds and the Error Message Window just shut down. Dr Watson wasn't on
duty it seems :). A consequent scan with virus scanning applications
revealed nothing. I am a bit mystified by all this.

I just updated one of my virus scanning application - SUPERAntiSpyware (free

Again , I clicked "Close" button - nothing happened and I was able to
continue successfully updating SUPERAntiSpyware. I then accessed
"cleanmgr", opted to remove all but the most recent restore point and
performed Disk Cleanup.
Then I rebooted to Save Mode and run a scan with SUPERAntiSpyware which
revealed "13 Browser Hijacker.Internet Explorer Zone Hijack". I quarantined
all items.
Please note that all items look very familiar to me, the websites used to
be in my Trusted Sites which now have been removed probably due to the virus
scan. I am a bit perplexed by this scan result (could be False Positive
Declaration??).

If you only downloaded without actually installing, then just flush the IE
temporary files folder(s).

The Blocker Tool is just downloaded and not yet installed.
Though I haven't tried, I guess that the DiagnoseConnectionProblem
application ready for use but because of my problem have disabled the
browser extension in Manage Add-ons.

Hi Kelly !!

Not sure where the rains came from. They seem to have abated yesterday. But we've had rain each day of the week.

Very best to ----> You

M

Maurice N ~ MVP

"frightening siren noise" eh? You "may" have your Windows sound scheme set whereby there is a sound played when an error condition occurs. That's likely where the sound came from. But..... should not be a "siren".

Drill through the Control Panel's options, and get down to Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices. Then select "Change the sound scheme".
Look at the Sounds Tab. Review settings for the events listed under "program events". See what the selection is for "Critical stop" and review the others as well.

Another susggestion: Don't press the Debug option, unless you know how to read & diagnose the result.

Lastly, again, if one suspects malware, you need to run other tools as well, besides just running antivirus.

quarantined all items.
Please note that all items look very familiar to me, the websites used to
be in my Trusted Sites which now have been removed probably due to the
virus scan. I am a bit perplexed by this scan result (could be False
Positive Declaration??).

Hello Mel,

I have an honest reservation about the legitimacy and effectiveness of SuperAntispyware & Superadblocker. I have not yet found a source to verify one way or the other. If you used this site wwwDOTsuperantivirusDOTcom (munged on purpose) to get your "products", it does look extremely questionable.

Where did you get yours?

I would like to have you do a full antivirus and antimalware check ---- but not using those products.

Run an online check at Kaspersky online website and have it do a full scan.
Close all your open programs. Temporarily disable your antivirus program.

Using your Internet Explorer, visit Kaspersky website and run the free Kaspersky Anti-Virus Online Virus Scanner
http://usa.kaspersky.com/services/free-virus-scanner.php

Scan the system at Kaspersky.
The Kaspersky scanner will detect everything if you use extended settings as described here :
http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?t=15574

Make sure you save the results from the scan. *** do not post the log here, but rather at an outside forum, like aumha.net

Re-activate your AV program.

Run more checks to see if you have other malware.

See <http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware>

See The Parasite Fight Quick Fix Protocol at
http://www.aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm

I'd like to have you run Ad-Aware, Ewido, SpySweeper. Make sure to save results & logs from Kaspersky & the others.

Get HijackThis v1.99.1
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use. It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware.

**Post your log to http://aumha.net/viewforum.php?f=30, http://castlecops.com/forum67.html, http://forums.subratam.org/index.php?showforum=7, or other appropriate forums for expert analysis, not here.**

On a sidenote: Your posts containing the debug info is very large at a size of 15KB and will be ignored by many.

The debug log is TMI (too much information).

Once we know your system is malware free, we can address the occasional IE errors.

Thanks for the tips, Maurice.
I will proceed as per your recommendation and report accordingly.
Thanks again.

Hi Maurice,
1) I run a virus scan using Kaspersky's online application (extended
settings) which resulted in "No malware has been detected".
Scans in safeboot with Ad-Aware, BitDefender8, Ewido 4.0 and Spybot S&D did
not reveal anything either. So, it appears that my system is malware free.

2) With respect to the (TMI) debug log; Well, I did not create it and
thought providing exact and comprehensive information would assist experts
to analyze my problem and come up with a solution. Anyway, I wouldn't know
as to how much of an automatically generated report should or shouldn't be
send :). I also was surprised of the extend of the report, sorry about that!

3) "Pennywise" mentioned Dr.Watson and provided this URL
http://www.xpforum.co.uk/forums/archive/t-882.html . The info is very
comprehensive and don't understand most of it but think that I was able to
turn off Dr. Watson. I hope the downside for doing so won't be detrimental
to my system.
