error with windows mail

when using an email link on an internet site internet explorer returns with:
could not perform this operation because the default mail client is not
properly installed.
As far as i can tell windows mail is installed correctly and is the default
for handling mail.. The o/s is windows vista.
Can anyone advise how I can overcome this problem.

Control Panel | Default Programs
Make sure Windows Mail has all its defaults selected.

Okay. Go to the registry. This key:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\mailto\shell\open\command

The (Default) value is

"%ProgramFiles%\Windows Mail\WinMail.exe" /mailurl:"%1"

That should fix it. If you don't know how to use regedit, then read the
help file first and backup before you make changes.
