Unless you indicate what the message is, no one can help, or we can only guess. Check your account settings under Tools | Accounts | Mail | Properties | Advanced and see if the SMTP server settings are appropriate for AOL. You can check AOL's website.
Why keep the error message a secret. It is the key to correcting what is wrong.
