error message pop up

Please don't misunderstand what I am saying. Shutting down your AV is just
a troubleshooting technique. The implication is what I am arguing about.

And yes, if you are using Comcast, 587 is the present number in all your
Comcast CLIENT accounts.

Robert,
I understand and I know how much you all repeat yourselves!!

It would be even better to say that most versions of the Norton and McAfee
antivirus programs eventually cause assorted problems in Windows Mail,
although this often takes months. We don't plan to test all the versions to
make sure this applies to all of them. A recent version of the Trend
antivirus
program also causes assorted problems in Windows Mail, although we haven't
seen enough detail on these problems to know if they also often take months
to show up.

This takes a lot more typing for something we post several times a day,
though.

Ok. I applied the changes to all of my accounts. The error message remains.
I am not having any trouble sending or receiving email but the error message
continues to pop up every time I am in Windows Mail. I am accepting that the
message just likes me and I may just have to live with it. What do you think?

We should be able to fix this. We trust you Bash, but could you please
repost the error message. Does it occur on all your accounts?

Bob,
Thank you for you patience. I realize you probably answer this same
question 50 times a day!! The error message is as follows:
You're server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes
include server problems, network problem, long period of inactivity. Subject
'cheers', Acct: 'mail.comcast.net', Server 'SMTP.comcast.net', Protocol:SMTP,
Port 25, Secure (SSL), no error number 0x800CC0F

Now bear in mind Bob that I have changed my ports on all accounts to 587.
And yes it happens on all accounts...but we are talking about 1 main comcast
acct with 3 alias'. Does this help you?
Thank you again,
Bash

I know. I changed them all. I can send and receive from all of the accts
without a hassle. I can even close the message window but it just keeps
coming back. I told you, I think it likes me. It is like it is jammed in
there. This has been going on for several days.

Well Bash, it still looks like you have an account named 'mail.Comcast.net'
in your account list in your client that has an old port 25 address. Or
maybe you haven't sent the latest Error Message dump? If you don't fix
this, it may just come back and bite you later. Tell me more about "close
the message window but it just keeps coming back". What keeps coming back?

Bob,
This is a fairly new set up for me. Actually it is my first internet hook up
so I can't imagine I have stray unaccounted for accounts...could someone be
using me???
Also, pardon my ignorance but what is an Error Message dump? I definitely
want to fix the problem as being bitten is not high on my list of things to
do. What I meant re: closing and coming back is...the error message pop up
has a close option that I can hit to make it go away but it reappears every
time I try to open something etc..How insane am I making you?
Bash

Ok, I understand. I have to go somewhere so maybe someone else can pick
this up from here. But I'd recommend this. Delete all but one account (You
can build them later). An Error dump is just a way of asking for a copy of
the error message so we can analyze it. Small changes can make a big
difference on what we see and how we'll react, so it has to accurate.
That's why we ask for a cut and paste rather then trying to retype it.

The error keeps popping up because Windows Mail is trying to get more mail
for you from the server. This is normal each time you bring up Windows
Mail. (Until the problem is fixed)

So, you have one main account and 4 other alias accounts you created at
Comcast right? Delete the alias' for now and we'll go from here.

You still need to change the SMTP port to 587 in the remaining account. (or
maybe it was in one of the other accounts that you deleted)

Some programs wait to make changes in their database until you close
the program and restart it, so you might as well try that.

Also, you might want to check if you still have an outgoing message
in your Outbox that won't go on to the server. If so, you may need to
move it to the Drafts folder or delete it, in case it is still set to use
port 25.

Bob,
I have gotten rid of my alias accounts. I can't find any stray ones that
need their port changed. I appreciate all of your help. I won't do anything
else for now until further instruction! Thanks again for your time and
patience.

Robert,
I checked my outbox and sure enough there were 2 messages that hadn't made
it out. They were, however, sent after I had made the initial port change
days ago. I can't seem to be able to delete them. Suggestions?

ok, try to send mail to yourself and see what messages you get. If you get
an error message, please copy and paste it to this group.

Welcome back Bob,
Things have not changed a whole lot...I will try that as soon as I figure
out how to delete a couple of stuck emails in my Outbox. I have a link from
another post that is helping me sort it out. AHHHHH!
