suddenly can't receive or send email

Benny

My email has always worked up until 2 days ago. I have checked all of my
settings, deleted and re-added my email program using the exact settings as I
did when I first set it up.

Now, I am getting this error message each time I click send and receive:

The host 'pop' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the
server name correctly.
Account: 'Brenda', Server: 'pop', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL):
No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D

Pls help, everything was fine up until two days ago

"pop" is not a valid mail server name. Get the correct mail server name
from your mail provider.

even when putting in POP3 it doesn't work. I went up to my desktop system
which is running XP, Windows Live Mail worked fine on it and I was able to
get my messages.

What seems to be happening is this: Windows Mail is giving me the error
message I sent, Windows Live Mail is doing the same thing for all email
accounts on it. However, on my desktop which is running XP, I am not having
any problems, except with one account

It's really frustrating, could there be a problem with Vista

Do you mean "POP3" literally? That's not a valid mail server name either.
Who is your email service provider?
If you get an error message, right-click on that error message, copy,
then paste it into a reply here.

I contacted my service provider and learned that the smtp outgoing mail
setting in advanced tab had to be changed from 25 to another
number...everything works fine now

Yes, that would fix it if the problem was caused by using a different
Internet service provider (other than Virgin Broadband).
