Error Message - Abnormal Program Termination

I recently had a cable modem installed and have been unsuccessful logging on
to the internet. I received the message below after clicking on the internet
explorer icon:

Abnormal Program termination: c/program files/internet explorer/iexplore.exe

Anyone know the cause of this message?
