"abnormal program termination"!!!!

M

Martin

When opening IE6 (XP Home) I have started getting the following error
message:

"Microsoft Visual C++ Debug Library

Debug Error!

Program: C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe

abnormal program termination

(Press Retry to debug the application)"

I have tried to "debug" but IE just shuts down.

What can I do to correct the error?

Thanks in advance. Martin

Runtime Library Microsoft Visual C++, Runtime Error Program
C:\Windows\Explorer.exe or Iexplore.exe, abnormal program termination.
http://www.doxdesk.com/parasite/CommonName.html
or
http://www.trendmicro.com/vinfo/virusencyclo/default5.asp?VName=TROJ_AGENT.BK
also make sure you don't have both the Sun JRE and the Microsoft VM JIT
compiler enabled.

Support for AVG6 ends 31 DEC. AVG 7 is now available free.

Thanks for the speedy reply.

Before I try any of your suggested fixes, I have also come across another
error message as follows:

"Runtime Error!

Program: C:\Windows\system32\msupd4.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual
way. Please contact the applications support team for more information."

Is this error part of the other error?

Regarding your previous reply:

How do I know if I have both the SUN JRE and the Microsoft VM JIT compilers
enabled? Which one should be enabled?

Thanks again Martin

I don't have that file and strongly suspect malware.
First eliminate any scumware.
CAUTION!!!!! Before you try to remove spyware using any of these programs ,
download a copy of LSPFIX from any of the following sites:
http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm
http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html
(if your OS is Win2k or XP) The process of removing certain malware may kill
your internet connection. If this should occur, this program, LSPFIX, will
enable you to regain your connection.

See
Dealing with Unwanted Malware, Parasites, Toolbars and Search Engines

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated with the program's update function
before every use, even when just downloaded. There's also a lot more to do
than just those two programs. CWShredder is also available here:
