Error 633 when dialing-up win Win XP SP2

Doorg Reater

I have pretty fresh install of Windows XP with SP.
Everything worked fine until I had to reinstall Hauppauge WinTV
drivers.
There were some problems and I had to uninstal /reinstal a bunch of
devices including Intel 536EP modem.

After reinstalling the modem it looks OK in the device list, I can
query it OK, but whenever I want to connect to the internet
(Earthlink) I get Error 633.

I have googled for a solution, but the only working solution that I
found was to reinstal Windows XP -- I really dont feel like doing it
again ..... :(

Does anyone know a solution for 633 Error in case of a correcttly
installed modem.
From what I found out on the net there is probably something wrong
with RAS.

Seen these already. None of them applies.
I did spend 4 hours yesterday reading google-groups and did not find any solution.

Doorg,

I guess you have already tried uninstalling the modem, then
rebooting, then reinstalling it.

Do you have any other modems installed? Or can you empty the
modem list entirely?

The next thing I would try is another modem. I have always
preferred external modems, perhaps you can borrow one for a
test.

Bob,

when or until?

How about uninstalling those Hauppauge drivers, then testing?

Are those drivers new? Latest version?

I was installing the drivers for the WinTV card because I was
building a new computer. Before I tried installing the drivers for
the card everything worked fine.

I tried uninstalling the drivers with the utility they have. I did
but still got the error.

I just downloaded from their website.

I have seen other posts with this error happening (I do not know if it
was when they were trying to install a driver). And a file called
rarepair.exe seems to be fixing it.

P.S. I also had the problem that I had to remove and reinstall many
devices in device manager (CD-ROM, etc).

Bob,

Does anyone know what the RAREPAIR.EXE file does? I see it mentioned to
repair different type of remote acces problems?
