When I try to install Microsoft AntiSpyware I get this
message when it is attempting to install...
ERROR 1904 Module C/windows/system32/GCCollection.dll
failed to register. HRESULT 2147220473
What does this mean and how do I fix it??
Thanks

Could you say, at the time of this error:

1. whether you were logged in under an account with Administrator rights?

2. whether this was a re-installation or a first-time installation?

3. If a re-installation, were you logged in under the same account as did
the previous installation?

4. Is the system XP Home or XP Pro?

5. If you know how to do this, please list the security permissions for the
directory
C:\Program Files\Microsoft AntiSpyware

.
Hi, I am having the same problem.
It started when I tried to update my defs. It said there
was a new ver of the program, I went to microsoft and
downloaded it and reinstalled it.
Now under my account, I have 3, all Administrator! Under
My account it works great, but when I log onto anyother
account I get a error message quote " unexpected error -
shutting down" I found out it was microsoft antispyware
causing the problem.
Well I thought I would try to reinstall it under the
other account, but when I try it gives me the error code
1904 this module cannot be registered, it does this for
all .dll files that come with antispyware, and for both
of the other accounts the program will not run. Runs
great under my acc. and installs fine, no errors.
And it used to work fine under all acc's. when it first
came out

I have XP sp2 home, with all updates.
All 3 accounts are Administrative.
Installed under my acc., reinstalled under my acc. and
wont install under anyother acc.

I have spywareblaster,adaware,xoftspy,spybot.

And I just found out I have same GCCollection.dll in
system23 folder and program files\microsoft antispyware
folder ? Hummm.

OK - it is definitely not a good thing to re-install under a different
account to the one it was previously installed under.

When you got the 1904, was the installing account the only one logged in, or
were other accounts still logged in (using Fast User Switching)?
