I have Win2k and sp4. I have purchased Norton Ghost and having problems.

Can someone suggest an alternate easy product that I just say "backup C drive" to my "G drive".

This Norton Ghost seems difficult for me to use.

Presently, I have an alternate instance that I boot from, and just copy all my files to my portable
drive. The problem, is that when I restore, my Norton Antivirus does not restore and I end up having
to reinstall the product.

Again, I just want something very simple to use, to do a simple backup to my portable hard drive
from C drive.

Thanks much,

Norton Ghost makes an image of the C drive. If you just
want a backup of your data files, there's a program
called "Instant Backup", which is downloadable at
Tucows.com. Just "Add" the files and/or folders you want
and you can schedule backups or do them anytime you want.
The program is not the most intuitive, but is still pretty
easy to figure out. You can tell it to include files of
type *.xyz or exclude types *.abc *.def. Takes up less
space on your drive and you only backup what you need.

Keep in mind that with Ghost you have to restore to the
same configuration, so if you restore to a different PC
with different hardware, Ghost probably isn't what you
want to use.

I don't believe it. You see this question so many times. What is the
matter with MS backup - can you get anything easier. Well I don't
think so. I do a weekly backup of C drive and make sure that is gets
everything there or what is important and make sure that is gets
System Volume Information.

From there it is a doodle to restore anything special or everything
plus the sys info.

It is all you need if you have to fdisk and format and have the common
sense to place all your working programs on anything but your C drive.

Thanks for your suggestions.

My current problem, is that my present backup system, does not restore my Norton Antivirus and
Norton Internet Security without being restored in "Disabled mode". This means, it takes me about 30
minutes to an hour to "Reinstall Norton software" back to its initial settings.

I will try your solution. It's free and see how it goes.

Also thanks much, to everyone for their suggestions.

Thanks much,

I use an old version of DriveImage but it works for me. What I do is make
clone my 'C' drive to another hard disk. That way, if my hard disk or mobo
ever died, I can just boot up off of the alternate hard disk.

In addition, I make an image of the 'C' drive and save it to a partition on
the other drive. I do this about weekly or before I'm about to do something
major. I don't overwrite the previous images so that I can go back in time
to whatever version worked. It takes a lot less time to do a restore than
to figure out what went wrong when making a change to the system and repair
the damage. Since I'm backing up from hard disk to hard disk, it only takes
several minutes. I usually start the operation and do something else (like
get a cup of coffee) in the meantime. After backing up, I unplug the drive.
No worrying about electrical surges, viruses or hackers.
