Talk with your ISP's support folks.

Try calling your phone company and getting service...your line may have a lot
of interference, is crossed with other lines, or shorted.
Thank You very much,

Do you have "call waiting" on the phone line?? If so, you will need to
activate the temporary disabling of it when accessing the modem.

Lower your baud rate. Start low and work it up. If it
doesnt fail at a lower rate, your copper lines or the
local concentrator is old and dirty.... You may have to
tweak your modem settings to get it to play nice.

I started having this problem about four years ago. I'd lose my 56K
connection about every 3 or 4 minutes and have to redial. When you
are on an economy phone plan, allowing 45 calls/month before they
start charging you per call, those extra 20 or 30 calls a NIGHT start
adding up. My ISP blamed the phone company's lines, the phone company
said the lines were fine, it was the ISP's fault...it was never
resolved.

I switched to DSL, later cable...and have never looked back. When you
factored in the cost of upgrading my phone plan vs all the extra call
costs vs pricing of DSL/cable, broadband was really the best choice.

Good luck sorting it out. I got tired of all the finger-pointing and
blame-laying. Nobody ever did take responsibility.
