download email from today only

I am getting ready to set up Windows Mail on my new computer, but I already
know that I don't want to download the 5,000 emails on my server, only from
this day forward. (or if possible maybe a week's worth of emails.) Is there
any way to set up my Windows Mail account to only download from now on?

That depends partly on who your mail provider is.
For example, Gmail has a setting that downloads only new emails.
If other than Gmail, about all you can do is go into your webmail
interface (using your browser), and move the older messages to an
archive folder. POP3 clients like Windows Mail can only download from
the server's Inbox folder.
