Download behaviour

Hi

When downloading a file with iexplorer, it insists on temporarily
storing the file in a folder in
....\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\ and only copy the file
to the selected download location when the download completes.

Is there any way to make iexplorer download the file directly to the
selected download location (thus avoiding the annoying copy step)?

No Every file that internet explorer recieves goes into this temp folder,
it's where the downlaod manager pushes the files into, before giving you
access to them. Either by copying the file to the location you wish it to go
to, or, by displaying it to you as a web page/graphic/text file. I'm sure you
get the idea there. You could change the location of these temp files, where
they are stored, but, again they are designed to jsut be temp. So the first
tiem you could use the delete cookies and the delete files buttons in
Internet Options they would be deleted.

Sorry, that's how Internet Explorer works.

Even when I download huge files, like program updates, the copy from TIF to
the designated location takes seconds. I'm lucky if I can get through two
sips of Earl Grey.

I am confused. I have win xp and IE 6.0 and when I go to download a file
there is a
a place at the top that says Save in, I just click the drop down by that
and point to where I want my download to go

IE downloads to TIF and moves the file once the download is complete.

With very large files (like DVD iso images), harddisk space is also an
issue.
You have to have twice the download size available on your HD.

Yes you are right, but, there is instances when this does not happen(depending how the download was set up from where you are downloading from) and you do not even have the dialogue Browse as to where to put it. Some downloads just go directly to the TIF without anything telling you or giving you the option. Again not all downloads but there is a few. And with these downloads it is a pain in the but to go and get it and move it to the Folder of your choice.

No I have it download to desktop where I can find it and delete when I am
done with it. It downloads to where I want it.

True but even that can be changed by right clicking on it and clicking save
target to disk, then point to where you want it

My point is that when downloading with IE you need space for your
download in
both the temp folder and at the selected download location. Thus when
downloading a DVD iso you need not just the 4G for the image, but an
additional 4G for the copy.
