.doc attachments

I have an error message when opening a .doc file attachment, it reads;
this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this
action. Create an association in the set associations control panel.

i have set the association to open all .doc files with office word 2007, but
the error's still there!!!! any ideas??

Hi Chrissy,

Are you able to save the attachment to the hard disk, and then open it? If that works, but you're unable to open the attachment directly from Windows Mail, try this:

Download FileExtInfo.zip from here:
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/fileextinfo.htm

Unzip the utility and extract the files to Desktop.
Right-click "FileExtInfo.exe" and choose "Run as Administrator"
Select .DOC file type from the list and generate a file association report.
Post the contents here.

My problem is that I can not open .doc attachments in Windows Mail (I
previously could). I get the same error message that Chrissy wrote - that I
do not have an application for performing the action to Set Associations in
the Control Panel, which I have done.

i am using windows Share point service 3.0, When i am editing some .xls data
from firefox browser it is giviing error " 'Edit document' require a windows
sharepoint service compatible application and microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0
or Greater.

Kindly suggest what i need to do. I am giving FILEEXTINFO report for .XLS
file for my system.

And the Office version is?

Try this:

Click Start, type regedit.exe and press ENTER
Navigate to:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.DOC

Double-click (default) and set its value data as "Word.Document.8" without quotes.

Close Regedit.exe

I compared the registry export with that of my system (running Office 2003) where I'm able to open .doc attachments correctly. Every thing is same except I don't have the "UserChoice" subkey under ".DOC" key:

Unzip the utility and extract the files to Desktop.
Right-click "FileExtInfo.exe" and choose "Run as Administrator"
Select .DOC file type from the list and generate a file association report.
Post the contents here.

I have an error message when opening a .doc file attachment, it reads;
this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this
action. Create an association in the set associations control panel.

i have set the association to open all .doc files with office word 2007, but
the error's still there!!!! any ideas??
