I've seen a similar problem mentioned earlier though my exact problem is a
bit different.
My PC is running on XP, as it came with. I had to reinstall the OS a few
times but it's worked perfectly since the last install. Well, that was for
awhile, anyway.
The display settings worked perfectly for a few months after the last
reinstall but then one day, I tried to boot my PC but the screen was black,
other than a small bar on the upper left corner (the same kind of bar you'd
see in a word processor, indicating where the text will appear once typed).
After holding down a key for about 5 secons, An error appears that says
something like "Plug & play error. Push F1 to continue or F2 for the help
menu." Pushing F1 would then make the computer itself function properly,
though the screen color is always set to low (4 bit). In settings, it doesn't
give me any other option for screen color ie which I look in the drop down
box, the only option is low. Also: It throws a Quicktime error a moment after
I login to an account, a moment after the desktop displays. It's like this
every time I use my computer. I've run virus/ad & spyware software to no
avail; after everything is cleaned of malware, the color remains at 4 bit and
the option to raise the colors never appears. Ths problem has plagued me for
a few months now. Does anyone know of a way to help me get high (or even
medium) colors back into my screen? Thanks in advance.
