Whoa Nellie--4-bit color?

Yesterday when I first logged on, everything looked fine, but the none of my
buttons worked, including the start button. I turned off the computer,
restarted, same problem. I started in safe mode, ran scan disk, went back to
my regular desktop. Now buttons work, but my display is 800 x 600 and 4 bit
color. Under the display properties, I cannot change the settings. I have
restarted umteen times. Sometimes my buttons work sometimes they don't. I do
at times get a ballon to pop up at start up telling me that my display
properties are set very low, click here to change, to no avail. Everything
looks right in device manager. And I haven't had a problem until now, out of
the blue? Anyone got any ideas here? Maybe my monitor is on the way out?

I think you have to reinstall the video driver(s)
They probably got corrupted, somehow - that kind of stuff happens once and
a while for no obvious reason
I doubt it's the monitor.

My first guess you have to be your video drivers. Like the last past
stated those things seem to happen occasionally for no apparent
reason. You can download new driver most likely from the Manufactures
Webpage or other tech help sites.
Best of luck
