Display driver/ Monitor question.

I am not sure where to place this, so if its in the wrong part...sorry.

I am having two problems and i dont really know if they are related. First
off i am having trouble getting my monitor to turn on. It will stay on stand
by but wont turn on when i turn on my pc. It takes a good few trys to get it
to come on, by unplugging and plugging in the monitor to even get it to come
on.
Second is, I cant get a decent picture in the nomal mode. If i boot up in
safe mode the picture is fine. I have searched about to try and find the
problem and have noticed that my display driver (trident 3d blade) has either
a red cross or a yellow exclamnation mark next to it. I have tried updating
it and i get a error message saying that the update wizard can not find any
better update than what i already have...so can not update.
My question is, Is it the diplay driver that is preventing my monitor from
turning on? If i buy a new monitor will it fix the problem or get a new
display driver/video card will that fix the monitor also? Or are these
compleatly unrelated?

Thanks in advance.

Is the connection to the computer seated properly, with nothing bent,
etc?

Did you search for the LATEST driver for your card before trying to
update?

I suppose it's possible. Does this power problem occur while you are
booting and starting Windows? Does it occur in Safe Mode? If yes, then
the driver would NOT be responsible. I'd check my cabling and
connections.

Try this, Right click on an empty area of the desk top, Choose
proporties, then the 'Screen Save' tab in the lower right hand portion
you will see a button marked Power... click on it, look at the Settings
for Always On power scheme. set everthing to Never

When the monitor remains in standby mode during post,
it means that either the monitor cable is damaged (check for bent pins)
or the monitor can't detect the video card.

Make sure the monitor's cable has no bent or boken pins
Make sure the video card is firmly seated ( gently make sure it's push as
far into
it's pci or agp slot as it will go)
If using a PCI card make sure the BIOS' setting that references the primary
(or boot) video is
set as PCI
If using a AGP card make sure the BIOS' setting that references the primary
(or boot) video is
set as AGP

If all that fails, consider replacing the video card.

Have you tried to contact the maker of the video card? If it is fairly new,
you could probably get free support. Another good place to look would be a
forum on the maufacturer's site. If you purchased this computer from a
manufacterer (such as Dell, HP, etc.) you might be able to get support with
them. Your best bet is using email or a live chat option. Some companies
might give you support after your warranty has expired. I hope that this
helps.

GOOD LUCK!
