Hi

I have the following problem, after a recent windows update.
I boot the pc and without problem:
- the monitor turns on
- it displays the bios,
- it displays the WindowsXP Boot Screen
- and finally my desktop.
In other words: I can work.
But, if I restart the pc, when it boot again:
- the monitor turns on,
- the monitor displays the bios infos
- the monitor displays the WindowsXP Boot Screen but after that it
displays only the message "Not Optimum Mode 1280x1024 60Hz"
In other words: I don't see anything
If I try to restart the pc again, when it boot:
- the monitor turn on,
- the monitor displays displays only the message "Not Optimum Mode
1280x1024 60Hz"
In other words: I don't see anything

I have updated both the driver of monitor and the driver of graphic
card, but no resolution.

Any ideas?

The message is coming from the monitor itself, not Windows.

Either change the resolution in XP itself or adjust the monitor using the
controls *on the monitor*. See its user manual for details.

I'm having the same exact problem with my Samsung 915N. Someone else
in my office is also having the same problem. He has a Samsung also,
but saw the same problem with a different monitor as well. These
problems appeared after recent windows XP updates.

This has *nothing* to do with configuring the wrong resolution and
refresh in XP as suggested by a previous post. The message on my my
monitor says the optimal mode is 1280x1024 at 60Hz, and that is
exactly what I have XP configured to display ... yet the problem
persists.

The Samsung On-Screen-Display (OSD) will *not* appear no matter how
many buttons you mash when it is in this state.

Starting XP in VGA mode will allow me to see the desktop again and I
can reset to 1280x1024, but when I reboot, the problem reappears.

ANY IDEAS ?

ALSO,
tried a different graphics card ... same problem.
tried a better shielded VGA cable.... same problem

Does someone have an answer besides what has already been
mentioned ? At first I thought my monitor was going bad, but when my
colleague said he was having the same problem, coincident with myself
and the application of recent XP updates, I became convinced it has
something to do with windows update.

You may have already tried these, but..

Make sure the monitor's screen refresh rate within Windows, and the
adapter resolution is set to something at 60hz.

Did you try the auto-adjust button on the monitor?
