Disk cleanup utility

I have a problem with disk cleanup option under
start/programs/accessories/system tools/disk cleanup. My
problem is that whenever I click on it it brings up the
dialog box that says is it calculating, but it stays
there. I have left it there for up to four hours and I
wont bring up the other screen where I can actually use
the disk cleanup utility. Does anyone know how to fix
this?
