disabling Active X prompt popup

Due to security restrictions and the way our network is configured, several
options are disabled on applications. We are not allowed to install Active X
on our machines. Fine. But I want to browse using Internet Explorer, but
every time I load a page with Active X, IE pops up a prompt asking if I want
to enable Active X. I don't. How do I keep that stupid popup box from
occuring 2-3 times every time I load a page?! Help!

You can email me at (e-mail address removed) if you know.

Hi

Please try the steps below and let me know with the results.

Enabling the Active X controls :

Right click on the Internet explorer icon (e symbol) on your desktop and
click on the properties option.
You will be able to see the Internet properties window.
Click on the Security Tab and click on the Custom level button.

Step 1 :
Enable the following components in the list :

ActiveX controls and plug-ins :
-> Download signed ActiveX controls
-> Download unsigned ActiveX controls
-> Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as Safe
-> Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins
-> Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting

Step 2 :
Check the High Safety under Java permissions, Microsoft VM

Step 3 :

Enable the following components in the list :
-> Active Scripting
-> Allow paster operations via script
-> Scripting of Java applets

User Authentications -> Logon -> Automatic logon with current username and
password

After performing the changes in the required fields, Click on the OK button
to accept the changes.
Click on the OK button under Security Tab.

It is strongly recommended to Restart the computer after performing the
changes.

If the above steps does not resolve the issue please download and install
the JAVA Virtual machine to resovle the issue.

Unfortunately, the security people have disabled that option, so you aren't
allowed to change it. I don't want to enable Active X. I want to permanently
get rid of the message asking if I want to enable it.

I don't know that it is possible. When I set ActiveX controls to "Disable",
I still get a pop up telling me that my security settings may prevent the
page from loading properly.

Norman,

I have seen posters occasionally posting links to solutions for this.
In fact, I think that there has been one within the last month but I haven't
been able to refind it. (Maddening, that is. <g>)

However, I think you will find that using accurate text strings from the warning
message will get you better search results than just paraphrasing them. ;)

E.g. this search finds quite a few similar threads within this year but not the one
I'm trying to recall. (I think that somebody had a link to a web magazine article
which looked like it would have been an elegant solution.)

http://groups-beta.google.com/group..._miny=2005&as_maxd=17&as_maxm=3&as_maxy=2005&

(Google Groups search for
"active-x" OR activex display correctly group:microsoft.*.ie6.*
from the beginning of the year
)

Besides the tack of eliminating the warning you can also use the
approach of allowing it in the most common circumstances by
judicious use of the Trusted sites list.

Finally, do you have a specific example of the problem?
I know one case which causes it is Java which may have
a completely different answer than some other ones might
be given.

I have seen them, but ignored them.

If I wanted to "fix" the problem with MSIE 6; SP1, I would certainly do
that. But it is not a problem for me; I don't use MSIE 6; SP1 for anything
but the Windows Update site, and some odd tests on occasion. I use Firefox
1.0.1 for most everything else, Mozilla 1.7.5 for the couple of things that
Firefox can't handle. There is a solution there, too; someday I will work on
it.
