Missing Information Bar and Active X control

Guest

The Information Bar is missing. I have not been able to get it to come back
at all.

I need to allow an Active X control (to update my anti-virus), but get the
error page saying that it was blocked. I have tried updating my windows
script engine and setting IE to allow all Active X (as a test only) but I
still get the error message. I tried changing it to prompt on Active X, and I
click on allow, but it still thinks that it is blocked.

I do get the popup blocked Information Bar, but nothing on Active X. I
suspect that my IE is damaged.

Running XP Home, SP2.

Had a similar issue, installed java software and it worked.
Go to www.java.com, click on manual download on the
right hand side and select Windows (Manual Installation). After installing,
restart and check the status

Hi espressobean :)

First, Up at the top in the Menu Bar, click View,
then make sure that Status Bar is check marked.

Then check the information here and see if it helps:

How to Use the Internet Explorer Information Bar
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/web/sp2_infobar.mspx:

The information bar is related to downloads, pop ups and Active X. Is it
checked in every instance? Check to see which setting(s) you checked?

also...

Open Registry Editor and ensure if the UseSecBand is set to 1 in the =

I tried changing the security settings and that did not help. I even tried
disabling all of the security settings on active x and still got the error. I
set it to prompt and said yes to all of the messages and it still gave an
error. Still no infomation bar either. The registry key was already set to 1.

Hi espressobean :)

Please post the exact error message, including any numbers, just as it
appears. That can often help tell us where, or what, the problem is steming
from.

Also.....do you have anything McAfee?

You may have some files that have become damaged or corrupted and need to be
repaired. Try repairing your IE according to the instructions here:

XP

Hope this helps :)

Yes, it is McAfee.

I get an error message saying internet explorer has blocked the active x
download. However there is no information bar (although I do get it on other
sites). I tried doing a repair of explorer and that did not help. I did
confirm that active x is working properly (by going to the following site:
http://www.pcpitstop.com/testax.asp?print=1 )

I worked with the McAfee folks and they insist it is something wrong with
IE. It does seem odd that active x works elsewhere though....

Try working through the following and see it will help. I'll check some
other items and get back to you. Take a look at these areas of McAfee
first:

2. You may have other software installed that is blocking ActiveX content.
3. An option in anti-spyware software you installed and enabled.
4. Could be a BHO (browser helper object) that you installed to provide
additional protection; use BHO Demon to see them, or use Spybot's tools to
list them.
5. You may have used SpywareBlaster to install kill switches in the registry
so certain ActiveX controls will not run, and you've hit one of those
malware AX controls.
6. It may be that you installed lots of other stuff that will affect the web
over which IE has no control.
7. It may be that the developer of the website has programmed something into
the page that is causing the problem. You will have to contact the
webmaster and let them know.

It is also possible that some form of malware is causing your problem. Work
through the information here and make sure there's no scumware on your
