First off thank you for reading this. I have windows
XP. I am not on a network, and I have no admin. I
recently got a virus that attached to c://windows/system32
it attached as c://windows/system32/system32.exe. I got
rid of the virus but now i have to edit my registry
because every time i restart my comp an error comes up
about this file not being found. Unfortunatly every time
i try to edit registry it says that registry editing has
been disabled by admin...but i have no admin. I have
tried everything that i could find on the internet from
changing my security options...to changing the c drive
and down security options for parent and child files. I
have no idea what to do anymore...please help...thank you
so much

go to control pannel. go to user accounts. change how
users logon and turn off use welcome screen.switch control
pannel to clasic view. right click on my computer and
choose manage. go to local users adn groups. go to users
adn ensure that an administrator account exists. reset its
password so you know what it is. go start logof. you
should now get prompted for a username and password. logon
as administrator.

you should now have full admin rights to the computer.
let me know if problems.

i just tried what u said...thank u....unfortunately due
to a previously recommended idea....my administrator
account has been destroyed...it's there, but is lacking
all information that it previously had....i wish i would
have tried that before...it seems like it would have
easily worked...thank u,

You cannot remove the Administrator account in XP. But since you seem to
be unable to access it - perhaps it has been renamed or you don't know
the password - you could try reinstalling XP. Hopefully, you have your
data backed up, the necessary CDs for reinstalling XP and your apps, and
the CD keys necessary for XP and your apps.
