Digital Certificate-Package for CD

B

Bruce

I get the following error when I try to use the Package
for CD feature.

The digital certificate for PowerPoint Viewer in invalid
or has been tampered with. To include the viewer,
reinstall Package for CD and the PowerPoint Viewer.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled both to no avail!!!

Hello Bruce,

This is a known problem which can occur due to mismatched time stamps of
digital signatures on some of the Office and PowerPoint Viewer files. I am
waiting for a respons from our testing team for the best workaround to this
problem. When I get an answer, I will post it here.

Hello,

According to testing, you can fix this by installing the MS04-011:
Security Update for Microsoft Windows:

OK, Ignore my previous post. The security update will make no difference in
this scenario.

Basically what is happening is that you have a mismatch between the
language version of the PowerPoint Viewer on your system and the MSO.dll
(their digital signature has different dates). Because of this, Package for
CD will refuse to create the image since it assumes that the reason for the
mismatch is that *.exe or one of the *.dll's have been tampered with

So, the workaround is to

1) NOT include the Viewer when using Package for CD and, instead,
2) Use the Copy to Folder feature in the Package for CD dialog and
3) add the necessary Viewer files, "autorun.inf" and "playlist.lst" after
the fact and then,
4) Burn the contents of the folder from outside of PowerPoint

If you are planning on using this feature a lot, you will want to do some
further investigation of your Office and PowerPoint Viewer installation to
make clear up the language/localization mismatch between the office and
Viewer files so that the digital signature check does not fail when using
the Package for CD feature and avoid having to resort to this manual
workaround.
