Dial up networking saves wrong password

A

Anthony

I am using dial up networking to connect to the internet
on Windows XP.

The problem I have is this: if I click on the "save
password" check mark in the "Dial up connection" dialog,
then windows saves the wrong password. Somewhere along
the line, my password gets scrambled, and the next time I
try to start a dial up connection the pre-entered
password is wrong. I can tell this because it appears as
around 15 bullet points whereas my real password is only
10 characters long. If I let it go ahead and try to
connect, then I am refused access.

At present, therefore, I am having to type the password
everytime I make a dial up connection. Can anyone
suggest a better solution?

If you save your dial-up password then the UI will always display 16 bullets
no matter how long your password is. I'm not sure about the corruption of
your password. Are you the only one using the machine? Are you saving the
password for 'Me only' or 'Anyone who uses this computer' ? Or are you using
the IE dialer? I'd suggest installing the latest service pack and see if
this resolves your problem.
