Dial tone

George

I am used to hearing dial tone when I dial up to go online. (I am way
out in the country and do not have access to cable or dsl.) I was
fooling around in the registry per a tech tip to improve the Windows
Explorer memory of settings. I may or may not have succeeded in
improving the memory, but I later discovered that I could no longer
hear dial tone when I went online. Is there a setting or a registry
entry to control hearing dial tone?

hi there,

To increase the Modem speaker volume, follow the below
outlined steps:

* CLick Start > Control Panel > Phone and Modem Options.
The Phone and Modem Options dialog box opens.

* Click the Modems tab, select the modem, and then click
the Properties button at the bottom of the dialog box.

* The Properties dialog box for the modem opens.

* Click the Modem tab, use the Speaker volume control to
set the volume level, and then click OK.

* Click OK in the Phone and Modem Options dialog box to
close it.
