Details view and Icon view

Don Payette

I have some folders on my desktop, within which I put
shortcuts to commonly used items. I like to keep these
in Icon view.

In Windows Explorer I prefer to keep detail view.

I have "Remember each folder's settings" turned on.

In the morning when I turn on my machine, it is not
unusual for some folders on my desktop to have reverted
to Details view.

Any ideas about fixing this?

WinXP SP1. Windows Update says I'm fully updated.

Windows [XP] remembers 400 folder settings. When that number is reached some settings aren't retained any longer. You can change this to 8000 by adding this edit to the registry.

Run this edit, then reset your preferred folder options:

Increase Folder View Options Limit: (Line 2):

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.
