Deleting mails from server

But K9 has the feel of goodness -solid, fast, YKWIM, so I'd like to keep
it, specially if it pre- marks most spam for deletion like mailwasher does
and keeps a blacklist

but it seems that (in comparison to MailWasher) K9 does not delete spam
direct at the server but first download them and then mark it as spam? I
wish that such a program delete spam already at the ISP!

perhaps this could only be a future feature?

I think you are right, Peter, after another try.

K9 will delete off the server, but only by selecting the messages,
deleting and confirming, which is an awkward business.

Mailwasher's funtion of preselecting most spam with a *very* simple rule
and a blacklist which is added to with one keypress on -, and the single
process mail button still seems to be the best for me.

Often (mostly - I've got *so* many friends) I don't even start my email
prog.

I think m/washer still rules for me.

There is an overriding concern, to help someone, and I will try to do that
while you check up on *proving* negatives

"Helping someone" is making sure that they have a "freeware" answer
to their query. Why ask a question in a "freeware" newsgroup if one
doesn't want freeware ? That would be pretty silly.

If someone wanted a shareware, or commercial, answer to a query then
they can ask in the appropriate newsgroup.

If one feels an irresistible urge to answer a freeware query with a
commercial answer. No doubt to prove how clever one is. Then they
can generally just send an email answer to the enquirer.

I come here for "freeware" help. Non freeware answers are NOT "being
helpful" IMO. They just make unnecessary "noise" in the newsgroup.
Wasting everyone's time/bandwidth.

Regards, John.

Nicely put. I totally agree. Assuming that because one doesn't have a
freeware solution, nobody else does, doesn't seem too clever to me.

Many times where people have been unhelpful enough to try and foist
commercial/shareware solutions on people here it turns out that there
is a freeware answer.

Actually, if you go into the options, you can have it so you do not
need to confirm it, I've got it set so I just highlight, and press the
delete key and voila...... they're gone.

Hello everyone

'm using PopTray for previewing email on pop3 accounts that I own.
But...some sucker (or is it maybe because of this virus thing going around)
bombed me. There is 5000+ mails on my pop account. It takes shitload of time to
read headers in PopTray and such programs.

Iwant to delete
those messages. Is there any application which could do this, without
downloading headers? I mean...just put info about pop server, password and then
Hasta la vista messages?

Please, this is urgent!
I did some search, but those were old applications, and links were broken.

There are at least three, small freeware programs that can do that.

I'll suggest the smallest [110k], Magic Mail Monitor.
http://www.geeba.org/magic/

It downloads only Subject, From, To, Date and Size which
will be a few seconds per 100. Highlight all, delete. Done.
There is enough info there to peruse them to find 'good' mail.
Look at the size. 140-160k atch's are Swen.

For the duration, my address is fake.

And since MMM will check multiple mailboxes and show all mail found *in
one list* (but, for information, will, as you note, still show which box
each one was found in), you can run it once to check all of your POP
accounts, and know what was found where. During the evaluation phase
of my settling on MMM, I found that most apps of its type either did
separate windows for each mailbox, or, if they did combine headers from
several boxes into one list, didn't tell you which box each one had been
sent to. One-list-but-destination-specified was the toughest firm
criterion I had, with the two roughly two dozen applications I looked at
before settling on MMM.

I'm not going to argur with that, Steven, I'm sure K9 can do better than I
make it, but ther's not enough help, and it's too hard for muppets like me
at present.

I'm sure when it's more idiot-friendly I'll change to something like it,
but for now I'll stick with m/w

Don't talk rubbish, "trying to help" is unconditional as to methods and
religion- I hope freeware will turn up, but I'll use or recommend anything
to plaster the cut rather than let the patient bleed.

You should refer to the OP, who was not IIRC, you. Remember "urgent".

I wouldn't normaslly answer your havering, but intolerant toffee-nosed
s**te-houses like you have to be reminded of their obligations to humanity
from time to time.

I won't bother with your callous stiffnecked outlook any more

Well, you might not respect me any more, but at least you didn't call
me a intollerant toffee-nosed sh**te-house. I know a compliment when I
see one. :)

Smaller still is PopFlush [49k]

Flush ALL email from a POP3 mail-box account
http://www.steeds.com/vicky/popflush/

Usage: POPFLUSH.EXE [-s -v] server username password

server = server name, e.g. mail.hiwaay.net
username = mailbox name, e.g. vpdura
password = mailbox password

-s = status only, do not flush
-v = give verbose information

Sorry, Blinky, it was late and I got angry.

I *do* respect you, even when disagreeing, specially as it needs a brain as
big as all outdoors to do linux, and I feel sure that when pushed you would
throw someone a lifeline rather than banging him over the head with a
bible, or whatever your equivalent is

Now THAT would be an "interesting" filter to setup. Has anyone ever
come across a mail checker that can filter on the server by attachment
size ?
