crx320E missing recording tab

I have a amd XP system with the VIA chipset and have a sony crx320e drive.
This drive is compatible with windows xp recording. but the recording tab is
missing on the properties of this drive. I must start up my pinnacle writing
software or the pinnacle packet driver software to write to this drive.

Its not a major problem, but a major pain in the bum, as the pinnacle
software is very very buggy and fails 50% of the time.

I have tried the registry change mentioned in this URL.
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;316529
but it had no effect.

Any ideas?

Sal.

You need packet writing software of some sort if you want to write directly
to the disk (use it as a huge floppy - if you will).

If you do not want to use the Pinnacle software, you may have to un-install
it so that the XP recording service may be re-enabled. Howe, you loose the
packet writing support as XP does not natively do this.

Look on Pinnacle's web site for possible upgrades or consider replacing the
software. The two most popular CD/DVD recording software system are Roxio
Easy Media Creator and Ahead's Nero Burning ROM. Both are in the process,
or have been, is a complete level revision.
