Crop and Change Size of Photos

I want to frame a group of photos from my digital camera - making them
different sizes - to make a collage. I'd like to retain as much resolution
as possible.

I have a photo editing program that lets me crop (Paint Shop Pro) and a
greeting card program that lets me drag the corners to change the size
(Printmaster) but am confused as to the best way to do it without losing too
much resolution.

Thanks, Allen

Cropping is only useful when you wish to remove
content. For example if you have a distance shot
of a house and you wish to fill the image with a
closer view of the house. You would drag your
crop frame around the house and remove the
unwanted portion of the picture. This will result
in a smaller image size and if you were to resize
the cropped image back to the original size you
would lose resolution. Of course, with today's
4 and 5 mega pixel cameras...you probably
wouldn't notice much visible degradation.

Dragging the corners of your images will retain
the most resolution. With the exception of how
they appear on screen...they are not permanently
resized. When you close the images they are
the same size they always were.

Allen, try resizing the photos in PSP unless there is anything you
specifically want to crop out of them. PSP does an excellent job of that,
you don't even need Printmaster to do it. You can set the dimensions you
want them to be under Image/ Resize, or you can even unhide the rulers and
after promoting the photo to a layer, use the Deformation Tool to drag to
the size you want. Another thing is when I print a photo, I use a resolution
of 200 ppi and always get a nice, crisp and clear print.

Thanks for your reply. Didn't try that in PSP. It's especially helpful
because Printmaster isn't set up for Windows XP - you can only run it in one
user on any PC - even in their newest version..

I'm doing great with my grouping of photos using PSP 8. But, how do I
specify a resolution for printing?
