Transfered photos file size

I recently upgraded to Windows XP and am using it to
transfer photos quickly from my digital camera to my
desktop. But it appears to be transfering photos in huge
file sizes of 1-2MB each. If I edit a photo and save it-
the size will return to a more resonable 200-300 KB. Is
there anyway to change the settings for the size XP saves
transfered images?

The size of a photo file from a 3 MP camera is typically around 1.2 to 1.5
MB. This also depends upon the level of compression you use in camera for
the JPG file.
Look in your camera manual to find the size of the file at different quality
(compression) level.
When you edit the photo, the software you use when saving the file is
different than what your camera uses and depending on the software you have
you can expect the same size or reduced size. Also check the software
settings you have when saving the edited file. Some offer different quality
levels, yours may be set low and therefore a reduced file size. This is not
a good idea. Select the highest quality.
