Create DOS boot disk - using Windows 2000

Hi, I've searched Google and throughout the net looking for the
best possible way to create a DOS boot disk. I'm using Windows 2000.
I would like especially to create one for bios upgrades for a CDRW and
Promise TX2. I did see this :

http://www.drd.dyndns.org/index2.html

" Bare-bones bootdisk for bios updates. Just add bios flash
utility and bios image file. Windows extractor. "

Sounds good, I was wondering if anyone had any experience or
preferences with creating a clean DOS disk. Would a DOS 6.22 or
Windows 98 boot disk not be a good idea ? Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

Thanks,

alvin

OK, you want to flash the BIOS so you want method 3 below but here's
how to create all the various boot disks from your own system, you
might as well get yourself 6 floppies and do them all, sooner or later
you might need them! Besides, it's easier to just repeat the earlier
post, OK?

This is long, please read the whole thing:

There are three different disk that are often called "boot disks" used
for Windows 2000:

1. A set of 4 diskettes used for starting Windows 2000 Setup.
2. A single boot disk that will start your Windows 2000 installation if
your boot sector becomes damaged.
3. A single DOS boot disk that can be used to flash your BIOS.

Which do you need?

If 1. Insert your Win2k CD in any PC running DOS or WIN9x or WIN2k,
browse to the "BOOTDISK" directory and type "MAKEBOOT.EXE".

If 2. Format a blank floppy and copy boot.ini, ntldr and ntdetect.com
on to the floppy.

If 3. Insert your Win3K CD and browse to the VALUEADD/3RDPARTY/CA_ANITV
directory and run the program MAKEDISK.BAT which will create a bootable
floppy with Antivirus files to check your boot sector. Just add the
necessary BIOS flashing files to the disk (you may have to delete the
antivirus program to have enough room).

Hope this helps?

Thank you for replying so quickly, very much appreciated. I've
just recently reinstalled and should redo all three of your steps. I
originally tried the makedisk a couple of weeks ago with an error and
no disk created, but gave it another try and that worked, so I have
the diskette i think i will need. I'm currently struggling with a 48
x CDRW that only wants to write at 12x and a new Maxtor 133 drive that
was not able to feed the writer fast enough (have just installed a
Promise TX2 card and am struggling with whether Windows 2000 is using
UDMA mode 6, 133 etc). Thanks for the quick and helpful answer, one
less struggle to...struggle with :)

Appreciate your help,

alvin

Take a visit to http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm

DOS 6.22 or DOS7/Win98 is just fine for bios flashes. Stay away
from any memory managers (EMM386 or even HIMEM.SYS).

Rick

Have got the boot disk from Makedisk.bat thanks to XS11E, but
will check these out as well, thanks very much for the quick help,
makes for one less struggle for me right now :) very much
appreciated.
