Control Panel Error Messages

Craig

When I click on the Control Manager icon I get error
messages that read in this order:
1) Invalid user identification has been specified.
(SM_RC_BAD_USERID)(11)

2) Invalid parameter. (SM_RC_EINVAL)(11)

3) An error occured while Windows was working with the
Control Panel file C:\windows\system32\setnote.cpl.

Does anyone have any suggestions with this since
Microsoft has virtually no Customer Service? You buy,
your screwed! Thanks, Bill!

or do you mean you bought an oem preinstalled or
otherwise and think that you should recieve support free
that you arent entited to.

oems cost less and come without support, you dont get
anything for free in this life if you choose oem, then
dont complain about paying for support.

Google Is Your Friend(tm). Using the search term "setnote.cpl" brings me
enough links to solve the problem. Here's the first one:

Error Message: Invalid user identifier sm_rc_bad_userid
I had a big problem with an error message that appeared every time
opened Control panel.
It said: Invalid user identifier has been specifie
(sm_rc_bad_userid)(11). This appeared to block me from loading ne
printer and other software. In searching for a cure I found lots o
other people had had the same problem - but no-one had found th
solution. So in case you're still stuck - I found the source of th
error appeared to be in a conflict with IBM Viavoice. I had erased thi
previously
- but the uninstall did an incomplete job and what was left was th
problem. My Solution: Run a Find on 'IBM' and 'Viav' and then use a
Eraser programme on all remaining IBM/Viavoice. The error seems to b
from that programme's code ... but has now vanished. And all th
blocked software will now load
