contacts error

I cannot import my contacts or add new contacts. When I click on "New
Contact" button a box appears and then disappears in about 1 second. When I
click on import or export a small box does appear. This box has a white x
with a red circle around it, no writing, just an "OK" button and an x in the
upper right hand corner to close.

By any chance, do you have Office 2000 or Outlook 2000 installed?
It causes a known conflict with Contacts.

After reading some other threads I thought I might offer more info. When I
click the address book icon on my Outlook 2000 toolbar it brings up my
Windows Contacts window - empty.

When I start a new e-mail and I click the "To" button an error states "the
messaging interface has returned an unknown error". I have un-installed and
re-installed office 2000

Like a problem in another thread I right click on the Contacts button in
Outlook 2000 and the "show this folder as an e-mail address book" is greyed
and I cannot check.

window contacts as explained in my first post. Any help would be appreciated

I know someone posted in this newsgroup about two months ago
concerning how to resolve a conflict between Office/Outlook 2000
and Vista's contacts, but I can't seem to retrieve that post.

If you are unable to resolve the issue with Windows Mail contacts,
one workaround is to upgrade to Windows Live Mail.
