Computer keeps beeping

I just did a clean reinstall of XP. Everything was fine. Then I started
installing the Microsoft game Halo. Again, no problems. Then I went onto
the Internet and began downloading the latest patch.

In the midst of this, my computer started beeping once every second. It's
one of the standard beep tones built into Windows. It won't stop beeping.
I even uninstalled Halo, with no effect. What could be causing this steady
beep and how do I turn it off? Thanks!

1. Update your virus definitions and then run a full system scan. From now
on, do both daily.

2. Check your system for "hijackware":

Important: You *must* seek updates for Ad-Aware, Spybot, etc., before each
and every use, even "right out of the box". But even they can't catch
everything, 24/7. When all else fails, HijackThis
(http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post
your files to http://forums.spywareinfo.com/ or the HijackThis Logs forum at
http://forum.aumha.org/ for expert analysis, not here.**

[Many anti-spyware sites continue to suffer from a week-long DoS attack.

may be found on this page: http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm.]

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?

The meaning of the beep codes is dependent on the BIOS. Consult your system
documentation or search on the internet. A site with some beep codes
listed:

Make sure you mouse and keyboard cables are tight (other cables as
well).
