I put in the Windows XP Pro disc and it started to
isntall windows. At around 55% the computer started
beeping I turned it off because i didnt know what the
hell was going on.
Then i turned it back on and it keeps beeping and it
gives me all the info about my computer. Then it sits
there and i cant do anything. it gave me the option to
enter POST or Setup.

i don't know what is going on and i'd like help to get
installed and working properly

sincerely,

billy boy

Hi, Billy-boy. Your computer has some failing hardware. The beeps are
actually an auditory error message. Look in your motherboard manual for
the meaning ("three long one short - bad video", that sort of thing).
Different boards have different meanings for their beep codes. I would
guess that you have faulty RAM, but basically you will want to do
hardware diagnosis. Here are some generic steps to take:

1) open the computer and run it open, cleaning out all dust bunnies and
observing all fans (overheating will cause system freezing); 2) test
the RAM - I like Memtest86 from www.memtest86.com - let the test run
for an extended (like overnight) period of time - unless errors are
seen immediately; 3) test the hard drive with a diagnostic utility from
the mftr.; 4) the power supply may be going bad or be inadequate for
the devices you have in the system; 5) test the motherboard with
something like TuffTest from www.tufftest.com. Testing hardware
failures often involves swapping out suspected parts with known-good
parts. If you can't do the testing yourself and/or are uncomfortable
opening your computer, take the machine to a good local computer repair
shop (not a CompUSA or Best Buy type of store).

Good luck,

Malke
