Hi Rainald,

Since updating to IE8 I have been suffering a number of problems and despite
personal attention by email from the Microsoft EMEA Consumer Technical
Support over the past 4 weeks has not been able to resolve. Only refrained
from trying to revert back to IE7 because the M/S agent kept stressing there
are significant security benefit in IE8. One of my number of issues shares
this thread i.e. unable to open any attachments on Windows Mail (both In and
Sent). The "%UserProfile%" from your suggestion was already on my Windows
Mail 'Start In' field. However when I followed CHRISTOPHER's tip and add the
extra string "\Local Settings\Temp" to it and pressed 'Apply' before
restarting my Mail program- I found it works and now I can open all my
attachments pdfs, office and jpg's as well.
By the way I had an automated update for Windows (KB972636) today (23Jul09)
and it seems to have resolved my other IE8 problem in opening online pdf (but
not the problem reported on this thread).

The answer for what, Mary? Your problem statement is not present in this
thread, so I have no way of knowing what you need help with.

I was having the same problem. I tried the suggestion to right click on the
shortcut to add the %UserProfile%, but was unable to enter anything in the
space. Instead, I deleted my existing shortcut, right clicked on the Windows
Mail selection in the All Programs menu from Start, the %UserProfile% was
ALREADY there so I simply added a new shortbut to my desktop. I double
checked and all the attachments that I was having a problem with are working
now.
