click scrollbar goes too far

In IE, when I click on the scrollbar, it should usually go
to the next page, or the bottom of the current page should
go to the top, however, when I click on the scrollbar, it
goes too far, it scrolls past the bottom of the current
page. More like it scrolls 1.5 pages or so. It occurs
only in IE, and only happened recently. It worked fine
before. This is very annoying. Help please! Thanks

This is a 2 month old problem. A Google Groups search would show many posts
regarding this screwup by Microsoft. For example, one Google Groups thread
is:

http://snipurl.com/ie_jump2far

Apparently Microsoft screwed up IE with the scrollbar defect back in their
Q824145 security update for IE. The details are at http://snipurl.com/2xku.
You'll see it listed in Add/Remove Programs as "Internet Explorer Q824145".
Supposedly the only cure is to uninstall this hotfix, but then you lose any
other security fixes it contains.

So either you uninstall the hotfix (and lose whatever else it fixes) or wait
for Microsoft's next hotfix (to fix their ****up) and in the meantime drag
the scrollbar or use arrow/home/end/page keys to move around.

This is an added feature:
If you click close to the little bar in the scroll window, it moves one
page.
If you click close to the up or down arrow, it move 1.5 to 2 pages down.
Someone thought that might be a plus for people who want to jump ahead.
Unfortunately, it was not well advertised, or popular.

I called Microsoft telephone support (Australia) who also
don't know about this problem with IE 6 after applying
Q824145 patch.
I also encountered same problem/bug/stupidity in Hotmail
when scrolling through a message to which I was trying to
reply.
Microsoft - please revert to 'normal' behaviour!
