Cleaning Out Temporary Files

J

Jack Gillis

I am trying to clean up my HD's and find many files with a .tmp extension.
I understand they can be removed with no problem. Am I correct?

Thank you.

Yes, but I would recommend that you download and install Crap Cleaner
from http://www.ccleaner.com/ It's an excellent tool to clean out all
the crap that XP accumulates. I run it first thing after I boot up in
the morning. It has a feature to not delete cookies you may want to save
for log in purposes, etc.

Yes, I agree Alias, but disk cleanup is certainly safer for the novice user.

Thank you. I forgot that I had Crap Cleaner already installed. It's hell
to get old :)

I never had any problem with it being unsafe.

You might want to check to see if Crap Cleaner has an update. Be sure to
untick the Yahoo Tool Bar that it offers during the install.

Hi Alias, CCleaner has it's uses and I frequently use it myself but with caution. It is
the only one I use.
I just don't recommend it to what I believe is a novice user. But everyone has their own
opinion and there will always be debates about registry cleaners and the usefulness of
them. So for the benefit of others who may wish to read this:-

Think your Registry needs "cleaning"? Read

and draw your own conclusions.

Even though I have never had a problem using the Registry feature, I
thought we were talking about the Cleaner feature.

i use ccleaner but found there is a problem. i use avg (antivirus)
and
if i run ccleaner within a few minutes after bootup, when avg is doing
its 3 minute thing, something is affected in IE6 and IE6 will often
not let
me access anything online.

True, that's how this thread started but unfortunately human nature, folk
who read this most likely will play with the registry cleaning part also.

Switch to Avast. It never gives me problems with Crap Cleaner or
anything else for that matter. It, like AVG, is free. www.avast.com

BTW, IE6 is not very secure. Use IE7 or Firefox.

OK! To the OP: DON'T USE THE REGISTRY FEATURE! :)
