Clarification on Host text from "Microsoft"

Hello all
My question is why did I receive the enclosed and what does it mean. I have
a program called: "win Patrol" and when I logged on this morning I was
confronted with this text box. Thanks for your help.

# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

127.0.0.1 localhost

I don't know why it's popping up. Your hosts file is a normal thing in your
operating system and I don't see any bogus entries in there (localhost is
all that is there by default, and the ## lines are remarked out).

What do you see in your startup tab in msconfig?

That's the default hosts file that ships with Windows.
Most of it is comments explaining how to use it.

127.0.0.1 localhost

Is the only line that does anything and it's fine.

If "Win Patrol" wants to show it to you then I guess you
should ask the authors. (I wasn't sure if that's what
you meant by the Win Patrol reference.)

I think it's a bug in Win Patrol, related to the time change, myself.

My customized hosts (not Lmhosts.sam or hosts.sam, both sample files) file
is marked Read Only. Win Patrol was running in background at the time
change at 2:00 AM today. At that time I was alerted to a Win Patrol prompt
by the Windows "exclamation" sound. The prompt told me that something had
changed my hosts file (again, not Lmhosts.sam or hosts.sam). I checked the
file and no changes whatsoever had been made to it.

Bug.
