I have a brand new Acer Aspire 2000 Centrino 1.4 MHz laptop running XP Home. After about two weeks of use, the computer has begun to freeze and lock-up for no apparent reason. The problem occurs, almost invariably, during a task (cruising the Web, listening to music with Media Player, attempting to exit a Word document, etc). I haven't observed a lock-up while the computer is idling.
When the lock-up occurs, the computer must be powered down and up again. The system loads normally and there are no error messages. The laptop is connected to a DSL router via Ethernet, and a Canon bubblejet printer and a MS Optical Wheel Mouse. All peripherals work normally and there is no error warning of any sort.
The machine is "clean", no heavy SW load, and no firewalls, only the BitDefender Antivirus. Device Manager shows no problems and there is no overheating -- machine is really "velvety", no sounds and screeches like on a previous Acer P4 that produces the back blast of a passenger jet from the heating vents. I have converted to NTFS and restored to the very first checkpoint of the machine. Run chkdisk, too, and all volumes are clean and healthy
One important (and mysterious) footnote (I believe) is that in the Event Viewer there are no Application or System errors after each of the lock-ups
Any ideas/suggestions/notes on similar experiences will be GREATLY appreciated.
