CD-R/RW drive

I have had my HP Pavilion 304w for about a year. It has
windows XP home installed. My CD-R/RW drive (CyberDrv
CW058D) has always worked for writing files to CD or
reading them. Today, I went to write a file to CD and got
an error message that said: cannot write file CD drive is
read only. When I put in a blank CD I get an error that
says: E:\ is not accessible incorrect function.

The device manager says the device is working properly. I
tried; updating the drivers (including the web), rolling
back the drivers(no backup), uninstalling the drivers and
reinstalling the CD-RW using add hardware, Doug Knox's CD,
DVD fix for XP, Google search for similiar problems,
Checked for driver signatures (all but one were signed. I
cut that driver from the driver folder and tried it
again), I rebooted following each change to the hardware.

Any ideas?
