CD Burner not working on 2 machines!!!

I have 2 machines and both have CD burners that aren't
working. I have no idea what I have done. Tried
updating drivers etc, to no avail. When trying to copy
to temp folder it either hangs or gives error
message "Windows encountered a problem trying to copy
this file, what do you want to do? retry or cancel."

Sorry, both machines running XP. One is HP desktop 3.0
GHZ other is Toshiba laptop at 1.0 GHZ

What files are you trying to burn? It sounds like some of the files will
not write to disc because they are currently in use. Also, the file
that it hangs on may be corrupted or something similar to that.

....same problem here too... with Toshiba Lap top.... been reading all the
tips & tricks for 5 weeks here and nothing works.
.... same error when trying to burn a cd ( prob #1) .... will not read the
cd's.... but they show as having files..... can not see them listed (prob
#2)
AND, ""older cds burnt read ok.....
very interested in what you find out....
