How do you import categories along with contacts? I have all my contacts
arranged with categories. Are the categories not suppose to export and import
along with the contacts? Mine did not. Also I need to import from a portable
HD backup to a re-installed outlook because apparently some file size
exceeded 2 GB which my computer repair person said was Microsoft's automatic
crash without warning size.

The categories you have assigned to contacts are stored in the contacts and
will be imported as well. The Master Category List is stored in the registry
for Outlook versions prior to 2007.

What version(s) of Outlook do you talk about?

For OL2k you find the Master Category in the registry under:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Outlook\Categories

Click File/Export to export the list. On the other computer double click the
*reg file to import the categories.
