can't save web page jpeg as a bmp

If I am looking at a web page and right click on a photo I
like, then save it as a bmp, xp will not recognize the
file at all no matter where I save it. It will not show
the picture as a jpeg nor will it convert it to a bmp and
then save it. What up?

I am having a similar problem; I used to be able to save
as and change the lower line from .jpg to .bmp and it
would save as the correct type. Now, when I right click I
get the file name already in the line with a .jpeg
extension and if I change the lower line to save as file
type .bmp it saves it as a .jpg anyway OR it saves it
without ANY extension at all and I have to manually add
the extension in later. I have found that if I type in the
whole file name (thus erasing the .jpeg) and follow it
with .bmp and then change the save as type to .bmp on the
lower line, it works correctly. But its a pain in the ass.
When you try to save as .bmp, does the lower line say
(*.bmp; *.dib) or does it just say (*.bmp). I am just
getting started on this but I think that the .dib is the
key.

Mary,
No, I don't think so...I usually empty my cache daily and
I can get the save as to .bmp to work fine if I am doing
it from Paint (as in when I alt + print screen a screen
page and paste it into paint, then save as). No there is
something else at work here and I think it is related to
the fact that when I cannot perform the task that was so
easy before it is always when the save as file type only
offers (*.bmp) instead of (*.bmp; *.dib). The .dib has
something to do with it, but I searched the knowledge base
and nothing shows up-only the opposite problem of losing
the .jpg option. Any more ideas?
