can't remove Microsoft Office 2003 Standard Edition

E

Edd Austin

My trial period expired on Microsoft Office 2003 Standard Edition (came
bundled in new computer). I did not wish to renew so I deleted it
successfully as instructed. A few days later I received an automatic update
download of Microsoft Internet Explorer version 7.0. I installed it but
absolutely hated it. Used a restore point to take my system back to before
the MSIE 7.0 was installed. Unfortunately it put Office 2003 Standard
Edition back in too. Only now I can't delete "Office 2003" by using the
Control Panel - add, delete programs feature .. it gives me the following
error message ..
"This patch package could not be opened. Verify that the patch package
exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to
verify that this is a valid Windows Installer patch package".
I do not want the unusable Office 2003 program in my computer .. it is 442
MB of wasted HD space being taken up. How can I remove it? I found one
Microsoft page that recommends downloading and using "Windows Installer
CleanUp Utility" to remove the Windows Installer registry settings, and then
reinstall Office. I can't reinstall "Office 2003" without a copy of the
program. What do I do next?

and then reinstall Office. I can't reinstall "Office 2003" without a copy of the program.

You don't need to install Office again (as you don't plan to use it, and as you don't have the CD). Simply remove the Office 2003 installer entry using Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. That should do it.

95/98/NT4/ME/2000/XP/2003
My personal use, is to, delete only the Green entries.
Click on Select All and choose > Select all Green items.
Right click on a Green item to delete all Green files.
1: Click on > Clean the registry.
2: Click on OK.
3: When searching is finished, click on > Select All & choose > Select
all Green items.
4: Right click on any Green item & click on > Delete selected items.
RegSeeker is also very good for registry searching, click on > Find in
registry, tick all the boxes in > Keys, put a word ( example Microsoft
Office ) in > Search for: & click > Search. Now you have a list on one
page, of all the registry entries for Microsoft Office.

OK .. trying to manually uninstall "Office 2003" using these instructions -
under uninstall it only has numbers not program names. the only one I can
find that shows "Office 2003 Standard Edition" as the "Display Name" is
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{91120409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9}
Is this the one I want to uninstall using the uninstall string?

Click on my profile please Edd, add > matt after the j & send me a
screenshot.

Screen Capture ( make sure you select jpeg, anything else is a bigger
size )
If you are in any windows based program, just hit the Print Screen key
on your keyboard ( or Ctrl + V ) and you have a full screenshot.
If you hold down the 'Alt' key with the Print Screen key, you will
capture only the window that is on your screen, not the whole desk top.
This sends it to Clipboard, now you can Paste it into Paint ( go to
Edit ) or any other Windows based graphics program.
Save as...
Save as type, select JPEG etc.
Image Resizer

This PowerToy enables you to resize one or many image files with a
right-click.
Here is how to get it smaller, right click on the file & select >
Resize Pictures, I use 640 x 480. Makes it a lot easier to email.

You need to do some lateral thinking Edd, your registry search may need
words like office or windows installer or microsoft or part of the
error message or anything that relates to the problem.

Also put the error message & anything you find into the registry, that
you are not sure of, into google.

Send me screenshots if possible.

Got it removed .. the "Windows Installer CleanUp Utility" deleted it.

Good news Edd, wondered why you had'nt used it, I think Ramesh must
have been sitting back thinking, I told him what to use, I can't do any
more.
