can't logon to domain, RPC service is unavailable

Hi,

I have two win2k servers, one is installed as DC, another
is a member. I tried to logon from the member server to
the domain, it failed with the message: The RPC service is
unavailable. Any idea?

A little vague.

Check for network connectivity using ping. If the machine is pingable, the
next place to look is DNS. You could run some tests using nslookup or just
have a look at the records in the zone file. Ensure the member server is
pointing to the DC for DNS, and that the DC is pointing to itself for DNS.

Also, load the services MMC snap-in, filter by automatic and check to see if
any of the services that are set to auto are not running. Also, look in the
event log on both machines for any suspect warnings and errors.
