Cant Forward Mail Using OL2000 To External E-mail via IMS In Mixed

Issue:

Unable to forward e-mails by setting up a rule in Outlook 2000 to external
e-mail addresses. Mailboxes resides on Exchange 2000 server, howevere,
messages are still flowing through Exchange 5.5 via Internet Mail Service.

Situation:

Note: 1) Exchange 5.5 Server is enabled for "Automatic Replies to the
Internet"
2) Rules in Outlook 2000 have been setup for redirection, not for forwarding.

In a mixed Exchange organization - Mailboxes have been migrated to Exchange
2000 Server from Exchange 5.5 Server that also holds IMS. The client has a
requirement to setup forwarding of e-mails using Outlook 2000 rules. Rule has
been created and enabled to redirect all e-mails to an external hotmail
address, as per Microsoft articles and guidelines.

Rule is not working and we are not able to see any redirected items in the
Sent Items folder despite receving several emails in the Inbox folder i.e.
rule is not redirecting messages.

I appreciate if someone could help me in findind a solution of this urgent
issue.

Not relevant...

I don't know what that means...

1. This is an Outlook newsgroup, but your question is about Exchange -
microsoft.public.exchange.admin would have been a good group for this
question.
2. Are you sure your outbound mail isn't going out through your new server?
Inbound mail may be coming in through the IMS, but may be going out via the
default SMTP virtual server on E2k. By default, autoforward to the Internet
is disabled in E2k/2003, as is autoreply, and I would leave both disabled.
3. Relying on Outlook rules for this is a real waste of time/resources when
you have other options that will work more reliably (and maintain the
original sender's info). If you need to forward mail to an external
recipient, use a mail-enabled contact on the Exchange 2000 server and use
the forwarding settings on the Exchange mailboxes themselves on the server
to handle the forward. You don't need to open autoforward to the Internet to
use that.
4. What's the purpose of the forwards anyway, if I may ask? There may be a
better way.
5. What other function does your 5.5 server have now besides bringing your
Internet mail in house? Are you retiring it? Note that end of life is Dec
31....
