Can't fix MS Paint

The error message that Paint has encountered a problem and needs to close
comes up...and I have tried everything; deleting the hkey, reinstalling, and
doing restore point. I am using XPsp2 and am updated....any other ideas?

What have you reinstalled? Have you tried sfc /scannow from run?

Please remmember that when you have done this, you will need to
reinstall all hotfixes and service packs.

I reinstalled mspaint from the windows componets reinstall and i failed to
mention I did do the sfc /scannow and that didnt work either..

I have found that 95% of problems with MSPaint are fixed by this
reference:

To resolve this problem, use registry editor to delete the following
registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current
Version\Applets\Paint

This registry key is rebuilt the next time you start Paint.

Thats the one I deleted - however it doesnt seem to be rebuilt when I went
back into the registry... though I looked in the sys32 file and the program
was there.

What hkey did you delete?

Get an Etch-A-Sketch. It's a far more capable drawing program than Windows
Paint.
